ACAUT questions admin., police inaction on extortion

The Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) has questioned the district administration and police in Nagaland for still refusing to act against the rampant extortion on the public by the underground groups. The organization issued a press release on Friday expressing disgust that the administrations and ‘law enforcing’ mechanisms of the state continue watch the coercion and harassment happening all “right under their nose.”

The ACAUT took into context the recent reported diktat issued by an NSCN (IM) activist to Yikhum village GBs and VDB members apparently to force the village’s leaders to hand over their recently released MNREGA funds.

The popular anti-graft movement stated:

“ACAUT Nagaland questions as to how the district administration and the police can allow such harassments and threats be meted out to the public right under their nose, therefore ACAUT Nagaland request the district administration and the police to immediately take action and not to let people fend for themselves.”

The ACAUT Nagaland condemned the diktat issued to Yikhum village GBs and VDB members by so-stated “town commander of Wokha town” of the NSCN-IM reportedly to its “Thungo brigade headquarter.”

The organization stated: ‘It’s apparent that summon was issued to force the village leaders to hand over their recently released MNREGA fund. The stand taken by the ACAUT Wokha unit that, Yikhum leaders cannot be summoned anywhere on the issue of tax/monetary matters and the strict adherence to “One Government, One Tax” by the people of Wokha is once again a forceful reminder to Naga factional groups that no arbitrary power can break the resolve of a people united for a good cause.’

On the issue of 24% “tax” and any other form of “taxation” levied by the “NFGs” (‘Naga factional groups’ as defined by the organization), the ACAUT Nagaland made it clear to the Naga public that these issues can be addressed appropriately only if the people in the other districts are willing to come together like the 14 frontal organizations of Wokha district did to form the ACAUT of Wokha. As for the term “Naga factional group/s (NFGs), the ACAUT called it a term that expresses ground reality as it is.

The organization has also expressed support to the fervent appeal of its Wokha unit to the Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union that the “membership of YN Lotha, so-called town commander of Wokha Town, NSCN-IM, and also a government registered contractor, should be struck off from NCSU rolls.”
