A local youth organization from Wokha town, Team
Metamorphosis, has announced a “data-based blood bank” for the town. Concerns
about urgent need for blood donors during emergency situations pushed the
organization to work toward setting up a blood bank, Team Metamorphosis
informed in a press release that was issued to the local media on Friday.
The social organization stated:
“After numerous donations of blood to vanishing lives and creating awareness for the same at various levels, sharing the burden and vision with likeminded young officers from medical, administrative and other walks of lives, the idea of starting a Data Based Blood Bank was first shared to the organization by a very dynamic, visionary and selfless administrative officer Shri. Mhomo Tungoe who had himself donated to save precious lives.”
“Searching for blood donor while the patient is at the doorstep of the operation theatre has been known at many instances while the patient is gasping for life,” Team Metamorphosis stated. “With a dream to provide better service to the ailing persons as well as the medical fraternity, the Team Metamorphosis was even ready to raise funds for procuring the basic equipments required in order to store blood (to set up a blood storage at the district hospital of Wokha) so that even in times of emergencies the medical personals can concentrate better in their given tasks.”
The blood bank was made possible due to many young people who came forward to donate blood to save lives, the organization stated.
“Many who have registered in the donor’s list include medical officers, administrative officers, teachers, entrepreneurs and college students and the list of the spirit of volunteerism is going viral among the lives savers,” the note stated.
The organization also hoped that the social initiative would go beyond blood donation. "If facilities are competent the team members are even ready to donate other organs in the near future,” the group stated.
Also, to create hygienic environments at the district hospital, members of Team Metamorphosis undertook various activities such as cleaning toilets besides campaigning for the reconstruction of a bridge to the hospital that got ‘washed away.’
