Some Wokha poll stations show ‘dirty’ electoral rolls, says CEO

The chief electoral officer of Nagaland has observed that some polling stations in Wokha district show electoral rolls with errors and ‘abnormalities.’ Their electoral rolls have been detected having anomalies, he said during a meeting with district and community leaders of Wokha town on Wednesday.

‘The errors need to be cleared and verified,’ Kumar said. The official has urged the district’s electoral officials to take serious note of said anomalies while undertaking the exercise. ‘More efforts need to be put in order to speed up the work,’ the CEO has stated.

Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Kumar visited Wokha on Wednesday and conducted meetings with the district administration, district heads of departments, supervisors and nongovernmental organizations. The meeting was conducted in the conference hall of the DC’s office in Wokha town.

The CEO warned the officials that ‘omission and commission’ by any official dealing with election-related work will result in ‘severe punishment.’ He has urged all in concern to work with sincerity ‘as per the guidelines of the election commission.’ He also appealed to the district level officers to help identify double entries and ensure that electors are enrolled or registered only in one area. This measure will ensure a ‘clean electoral roll,’ he said.

Also, Kumar urged the supervisors and block-level officials to attend meetings and trainings as and when called. The CEO also pointed out that errors and ‘abnormalities’ in the electoral rolls have been detected in some polling stations under Wokha district.  The errors need to be cleared and verified, Kumar said. The official has urged the district’s electoral officials to take serious note of said anomalies while undertaking the exercise. More effort needs to be put in order to speed up the work, the CEO said.

Further, the election chief appealed to the administrative officers and nongovernmental organizations to ‘sensitize the public about the importance of having the Aadhar card.’ He encouraged those who have missed out the facility to avail it. The CEO also congratulated the district election officer of Wokha for taking up ‘an ambitious SVEEP action plan.’

The ADC of Wokha, Thavaseelan, and AEO of Wokha, Toshimongba, gave  PowerPoint presentations on NERP and SVEEP activities that had been undertaken in the district.
