One of the pioneering leaders of the Naga Peoples’ Movement
for Human Rights (NPMHR) Ahu Sakhrie is no more. The NPMHR issued a condolence
message on Saturday expressing shock and grief at his demise, which the organization
said, happened on July 23.
‘He was one of the founding members and second convener of the NPMHR. Ahu was a brilliant human rights member actively involved in and committed towards uplift of the Naga all throughout his life. He believed in protecting universal human dignity, rights and values,’ the NPMHR stated in the message.
“In the Naga struggle for self determination, defending the right to life and free speech and movement was the endeavour of the founding members, and Ahu was one among them who with his powerful oratory skills and dedication was a strong propagator of the Naga cause,” the organization stated. The NPMHR prays for God’s peace on the bereaved family and rest for the departed leader.
Also, the NSCN (IM) has offered condolences. A note from the group on Saturday stated that Sakhrie, a native of Khonoma village, was a visionary “He will be remembered for his heroic deeds in the movement for Human Rights. The blankness created by his sudden demise will be difficult to fill in times to come, his untimely departure is not only lost to the family, NPMHR and Angami community but to the Naga people,” the NSCN (IM) stated.
