Ravi and Muivah issue joint statement: says talks brighter

The interlocutor of the Government of India and the general secretary of the NSCN (IM) issued a brief statement on Friday asserting that the “talks have become more purposeful, less ritualistic, more forthright and far more frequent.”

The brief note with the head ‘joint communique, appended by RN Ravi and Th. Muivah, was issued to the media on Friday.

The note stated: “The political initiative of the Govt. of India and NSCN to amicably resolve the Naga political issue has received a new urgency and impetus during the last two years.

The Talks have become more purposeful, less ritualistic, more forthright and far more frequent. In the last two years we met more times than all the years before. It helped building unprecedented mutual understanding and trust.”

The note praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's “statesmanship, his respect and love for the Naga people, their legitimate rights and aspirations and wisdom of the Naga leaders could lead to the historic Framework Agreement of August 3. 2015 which settles the political parameters of the final solution.”

Within these parameters, the note stated, “Details are being worked out in earnest.” The note did not mention what the “details” were.

The note also admitted that the demise of lsak Chishi Swu “adversely impacted the process.”


“His departure is a big loss for all of us,” it added.
