Call for Work: Phone directory of local skilled workers launched

To promote and empower local skilled workers, local skill resource group YouthNet and the department of Labour and Employment have launched a directory dubbed ‘DialNagaland’ on Tuesday, July 21. The facility was launched in the office of the department of Employment and Craftsmen Training in High School of capital town Kohima.

DialNagaland is a classified directory for local skilled workers which the public can access by calling a number 70850-50006. It is a database where contact information of skilled workers such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, masons, mechanics, and painters, among others will be listed. The objective is also to ease the trouble of citizens of Kohima and Dimapur in their search for local skilled workers within their respective area.

Clients can request for the services of skilled workers by calling the number, which is linked to the YouthNet office. The operator then connects the potential customer or clients to the available skilled worker by giving them the contact information of the worker.

Clients can then get in touch directly with the skilled workers for negotiations and avail their services, informed Lezo Putsure, chief strategist of YouthNet, during the launch program.

He also said that Dial Nagaland was conceptualized and created to address the issue of inaccessibility of local skilled workers including the innumerable skilled people from ITIs across the state. It is to help local skilled workers in marketing by creating linkages and publicity for them, Putsure said.

Likewise, DialNagaland aims to improve the level of professionalism in skilled workers by imparting training as and when necessary, and to organize the local skilled labor industry in the state.

The services will first be piloted in Kohima and Dimapur before going to other districts. DialNagaland currently has close to 80 skilled workers registered across different sectors and more are welcome to register for free at the YouthNet offices in Kohima and Dimapur, said Putsure.

Dial Nagaland is being undertaken through YouthNet's Impact 5000 by 18 campaign. The campaign is a five-year program about entrepreneurship, skill development, and employment.
Additional director of Labour & Employment Vandarshan Lotha launched the program.

In his address, Lotha lauded YouthNet for endeavouring to employ Naga youth into various sectors of employment. While encouraging youths with emphasis on the importance of self-dependence, he expressed hope that the facility offered by DialNagaland will help employ more youths from the State.
