Two vehicle thieves and a Shiktiman–no, not Mukesh Khanna–but
the army truck, are in the custody of Kohima police after the accused tried to
make off with the aged carrier on July 17. Police authorities informed about
the arrest on Monday, July 20.
The authorities informed that on July 17, personnel of the District Intelligence Branch of the District Executive Force of Kohima were undertaking routine checking duties at Kidima junction, near Kohima town, when they stopped a Shaktiman. The truck bore the registration number ‘MN-07C-4263’, and had the engine number ‘P417035VF’ and chassis number ‘91VFJ60526P’.
This ancient Shaktiman is currently in the custody of Kohima police after two persons driving it could not verify ownership of the vehicle. |
On verification of the vehicle’s documents, the chassis and
engine number were found to be blank in the RC book, police said. The sales
deed showed that the said vehicle was purchased from one Anamul Haque, of
Jaintia Hills in Shillong of Meghalaya for Rs. 30,000.
On suspicion, the police personnel enquired further and it was learnt that the truck was purchased from Dimapur for Rs. 3, 40, 000 from one Khangwan, a resident of Ukhrul district in Manipur. This was contradictory to the documents about the vehicle and the statements given by the driver of the truck.
“In the meantime, while the police were examining the driver, a phone call was received on the cell phone of the alleged driver claiming himself to be the owner of said vehicle and stated that, he has bought the truck from an auction although there is no documentary evidence to substantiate the claim,” the police said.
Two persons identified as one Mayami Vashem, 27 years, of Parei village of Ukhrul in Manipur and a Khaleng Aso, 31 years, of Phungcham village, also in Ukhrul were taken into police custody. The police have filed a complaint against them.
The 56-year old Shaktiman truck has been confiscated and currently being kept in police custody, the authorities informed.
