Police issue new civilizing traffic rules for wild Dimapur

The primarily traffic-rule-ignorant and rowdy motorists of Dimapur will now be put to the task with the district’s police authorities ordering a fresh set of traffic rules that would be enforced in the town from July 13.

While the initial rules that the traffic authorities have order are not comprehensive, it is understood that more directives are on the way from the authorities to tame and civilize the infamous streets of the business town.

The establishment of the deputy commissioner of Dimapur police issued an order on Thursday, July 9, outlining a set of traffic rules for motorists.

New traffic regulations

•         Dual parking of vehicles is now prohibited, except in any designated space allotted, along all the stretch of roads in the town.

•         Two wheelers riders are directed to use the center stand when parking. This measure is to minimize space occupied.

•         Any vehicle, including motorbikes / two-wheelers found not parked in designated parking space will be towed away and face traffic penalties.

•         With effect from July 13, GS Road in Dimapur will be a two-way for vehicular traffic.

•         Commuters proceeding from the Flyover toward the Army Supply Road-Dhobinalla junction and adjoining roads are to proceed via GS Road by taking the Y-junction turn at the Flyover.

•         Parking of four wheelers and two wheelers along GS Road will be allowed only at designated parking spaces allotted.

•         Carts, “thellas”, or rickshaws are now prohibited on the GS Road from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The police authorities have directed motorists to comply with the traffic regulation strictly.
