Investigations into the approximately Rs. 12 crore financial
scam in Nagaland’s disgraced department School Education, has been extended by
three months.
In February this year, the Nagaland Vigilance Commission had established misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs 12.79 crore, meant for disabled children by officials of the School Education department. The funds were meant for the Inclusive Education for the Secondary Stage (IEDSS) for persons with disabilities.
A DIPR minute on Tuesday said that the investigation into the IEDSS case by the Special Investigation Team has been extended by another 3 months i.e., till September 2015 to enable the investigators to complete the physical verification and investigation in 5 districts. The work was pending “due to the closure of schools on account of summer vacation”, the report said.
In February, among outrage from various organizations, the misappropriation of funds meant for Inclusive Education for the Secondary Stage was strongly condemned by commissioner for Disability, Dr. Atha Vizol.
During the period 2011-12, 2012-13, a sum of Rs 12.795 crore allegedly misappropriating by officials of the department was ‘indeed very shameful and a matter of serious concern’, the commissioner had said.
Besides, embezzling the funds, officials were even manipulating the records as published in the local news dailies, the media had reported him saying.
